Description
YOKO ONO. – GEORGE MACIUNAS – BEN VAUTIER:
20 pieces of Assholes Wallpaper [With Still from Yoko Ono’s Film no. 4 aka Bottoms]. Flash Art Milano c. 1968 / 1973. 56.5 × 43.2 cm. 20 single sheets of wallpaper, printed on lightweight paper, utilizing two stacked images of Yoko Ono’s ass. Planned and announced in Fluxusnewpaper, January 31, 1968, and originally credited in collaboration with Ben Vautier and later Robert Watts. Edition was not realized until c. 1973 with copies issued both by Fluxus and Flash Art (c. 1975). As both editions lack attribution they are indistinguishable. Poster using images taken from Film No.4 – described by Ono as “an aimless petition signed by people with their anuses.”
The complicated authorship of this “wallpaper” ultimately belongs to Ben Vautier; the image is, of course, taken from Yoko Ono’s film #4, “Bottoms,” the “butts” having been appropriated by Ben Vautier – and then Maciunas included it in “Fluxpack 3”. Only very minor wear to edges and some creases – please see photo
