William Eggleston’s exhibition ‘Color Photographs’ opened at the Museum of Modern Art in 1976. Photographs taken by Eggleston in his own private milieu in and around Memphis between the years of 1969 and 1971 were selected. Eggleston’s exhibition was the first presentation of a color photographer’s work at this institution after an interval of more than ten years and the accompanying catalogue ‘William Eggleston’s Guide’ was the museum’s first publication of color photograph
