Roswitha Hecke — Liebes Leben, Bilder mit Irene

Out of Stock

The real story of Irene was a sad one: A secret star of the Zurich’s Bohème working as a prostitute until her tragic early accidental death. For three weeks Hecke photographed her daily routine in Zurich and accompanied her to Rome where Irene always celebrated her birthday. The result was a subtle and strong portrait of a woman, both beautiful and confident, erotic and with a proud elegance. The photos, a mix of choreographed and documentary work, capture an unusual immediacy and presence. Roswitha Hecke born in Hamburg 1944 also made still photography for Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Éric Rohmer
