Jesper Höm (1931-2000 – father to photographer Marc Hom) produced some of the most well executed photo books in Danish photography in the 60’s and 70’s. This is the first edition of his maybe most special photo book, largely unrecognized and underrated: a ‘Picture Dictionary’ intended as a cheap to buy book for children to look in, to paint in or make drawings after – an unpretentious version of Albert Renger-Patzsch’ ‘Die Welt ist Schön’. Very hard to find in just acceptable condition. Originally a product of the 1970’s Danish “Free Education” this book object – no text, only magnificent black and white photographs by Danish master photographer Jesper Höm – , comes over today as a stunningly beautiful photo book, a playfull catalogue of the material things of the world. “One of photography’s prime functions is to make an inventory of the things in this world” (Parr & Badger II, pp. 325). The book was reprinted twice, as here 1979 and again in 1996 and an American and a German edition was also produced (1976 & 1977). The German reprint is included in ‘Terrible Awesome Photobooks’. – This is the first editon, 2nd printing identical to the 1st except color of the title
