“In “A Tribute to Franz West,” all of those persons whom the artist considers a secret source, a “focus imaginarius,” are brought to light. As the arc of participating artists describes Franz West’s lifetime, its movement leads directly to that space of artistic productivity that constitutes West’s history of reception and impact. The exhibited works thus also represent a panorama of “inner addressees” of the artist Franz West, which he also required for his production. In turn, the exhibition participants may also have needed a Franz West to objectivize for their part, in the form of the works shown here.
