200,00 kr.Félix Fénéon ( 1861 – 1944) anarchist, critic, curator, and collector – was a pioneering advocate of art and literature in France in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His personal collection reflected key developments in avant-garde art that he chronicled within his art criticism. It included impressionist paintings by Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro; neoimpressionist and pointillist paintings by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac; Fauve masterpieces by André Derain and Henri Matisse; Cubist, Dada, and Futurist works; and objects from Africa, the Americas, and Oceania.Born in Italy and raised in France, Fénéon moved to Paris after completing his studies in 1880. An avowed anarchist, Fénéon paradoxically supported himself as a senior clerk in the War Office from 1881 to 1894 while he frequented the weekly salon meetings of symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé, moved in bohemian circles in the cafés of Montmartre, and gained renown as an art critic. During this period, he edited the experimental poetry of the Comte de Lautréamont (Isidore Lucien Ducasse), Mallarmé, and Arthur Rimbaud. In his capacity as a critic, Fénéon helped to shape a new style of art criticism that emerged at the turn of the century. He was an editor and contributor to La Revue Blanche and, in 1883, founded La Revue Indépendante, in which he published the poetry of Paul Verlaine, Mallarme et al.

“The Italian photographic artist Frank Horvat (1928–2020 – (born in Abbazia, today`s Opatija, Croatia) ) worked as a fashion photographer for Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue, and from the mid-1960s, he was also active as an experimental filmmaker. “The work of the outstanding artist Frank Horvat is created with utmost discretion and great formal rigor. As a fashion photographer, he avoids fleeting trends; as a photojournalist, he creates powerful and timeless images. In his own way, however, he effected a kind of gentle revolution when he introduced the 24 x 36 mm format at the end of the 1950s. … Perhaps William Klein owes him something, and vice versa. In any case, his name will go down in history as one of the greats of fashion photography” (J.-L. Monterosso in Koetzle). ” he likes to transgress boundaries, and he also does not care about the comme il faut in his fashion photographs either: as early as the fifties, he goes out onto the street, brazenly positions a model in the middle of a vegetable market (1959) for Jours de France, or shortly afterwards experiments with boldly cropped motifs or amusing film quotes. In doing so, Horvat mostly dispenses with artificial light and shoots many of his fantastic pictures with a 35mm Leica from the hip, so to speak. He works for Elle, Vogue, Harper`s Bazaar, and other major magazines, with famous models and celebrities, and he is the first photographer ever to use Photoshop for his work. Respect for the portrayed women and palpable endearment distinguish Horvat`s sensual, elegant pictures from those by all other photographers on the fashion scene.”

Hollywood Babylon also featured chapters on the Fatty Arbuckle-Virginia Rappe scandal, the murder of William Desmond Taylor, the Hollywood Blacklist, the murder of Sharon Tate, and the Confidential magazine lawsuits. “The book also featured graphic images, such as the scene of the traffic accident which killed Jayne Mansfield, and a shot of Lewis Stone lying dead in his driveway right after he had his fatal heart attack. – The book has been responsible for several urban legends, mostly about the silent film stars it covered. The book is responsible for the rumor that Clara Bow had slept with the entire USC football team which has been debunked countless times. Bow’s sons considered suing Anger at the time of the second release. Hollywood Babylon has also been the source of the rumor about a sexual relationship between Ramon Novarro and Rudolph Valentino. Although Novarro was gay, there has never been any proof that Novarro and Valentino were anything more than acquaintances. In a 1962 interview, Novarro stated that he met Valentino “only once”. Anger also wrote that Novarro had died with an Art Deco dildo, an alleged gift from Valentino, shoved down his throat. No such gift existed, and no such object was found at the crime scene
